Aircraft Collide In Mid-air
Received Monday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Jan. 30. A Pan-American Constellation with 23 passengers plus ten of a> crew, collided with a sing'lecngiircd private plane ten minutes c'ltter taking olf for London from LatJiiai'dia Airfield this afternoon. rhc small plane disintegrated and its two o'ecnpants were killed. The Constellation, with a large hole slashed in the top of the fuselage, made an emergeney landing at .Vlitchell Field, Long Jsland. Xohody in tlie Constellation was injnred. The bodies of both persons aboard the private plane were eatapulted into the Constellation 's liull ancl were removed from the airliner when it landed. A passenger aboard the airliner said the small plane gashed a hnge hole in the top of the airliner, spilling its motor and two bodies into the big plane. Tbe ^irliner made a shallow dive after the impact but the ])ilot qnickly reeovered and cireled and brongbt the plane down in a perfeet fhnding. The top of the aircraft for 15 feet 1 behind the galley, was torn ,off in the collision which oecurred at 3500 feet. The wreekage was scattered over two sqnnre miles.
