Personal Mrs.. R. Saun'ders, of Thompson Street,- returned home yesterday morning after holidaying in Auckland. Miss Thompson, of the local school teaching staff, returned to Shannon after spending the latter portion of her vacatioh in Auckland. Church Nears Completion Rapid progress has been made in the reeonstruction of the - Ven. Bede's Anglican Church on the new site in Stout Street. It is under a fortnight ago since the first outward impressions were gained that the church was to be removed from Bryce Street, where it has stood for fifty years. The major work of reconstructing the build,ing is now completed although some time will have to be spent on the interior. Domain Cycle Track After being idle for the past fifteen years, the cycle track at the local domain has taken a new lease of life. A.heavy grader has removed the old coat of sealing and the track has now been rolled. It it was re-used for the first time last Tuesday • evening when the nine lap cycle race was held on it. It is the hope of the Shannon Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club to reseal the track but it is understood

that the cost will be about £300. However, with a continuance of the public's support- this sum should be raised within the next few seasons. Hj-^wav Sealing Proeeeds The work of applying. the first coat of mixture to the ShannonMangaore highway is progressing speedily. It is expected that by the weekend the whole of the highway between the borough boundary and Mangaore will have received its priming coat. It is hope'd that motorists using the roadway will observe the 5 m.p.h. speed limit over the new surface, not only to prevent their vehicles. from, being splashed with wet tar but also? to preserve the .surface. After. the workmen had finis'hed their duties on a reeent evening -it was noticed that a vehiele had travelled along the road at a high speed and. part of the recently completed surface had been carried completely away.
