Club Members Settle Down To Serious Training

Following the very successful carnival eonducted by the Levin Amateur Swimming and Lifesaving Club recently and the special tuition given by the New Zealand champion swimmers, Misses Lane, Ca-ey and Forsyth, greater interest is being given to swimming generally. Club members are becoming more keen and, with the approach of the carnivals, are settling down to more serious training. The . attendance of junior members has not been so good lately but this no doubt is accounted for by the seliool , holidays. Now that most holidays are over, junior, intermediate and senior members are requested to train still more seriously and make a point of having their times correctly recorded. Any swimmer breaking his time by mote than three seconds is liable to disqualification. Having correct times recorded will help the club captain and secretary when sending entries and nominations for carnivals. It i's hoped that by Wednesday the club will be able to commence club competitions. The Le.vin club hope this year to make a bold bid for the. Levin Cup which at present is held jointly by Terrace End and Palmerston North Clubs, Places in the team are being strenuously fought- for. Tne team will consist of five senior. members who must be fit and- able to swim a f ast 100 yards. It will be picked and announced later. The polo team will start® serious training this vweekend. An appeal is made to all nonswimmers to learn to swim. Club instructors are giving an hour . on Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. Juniors are taken from 9 to 9.30 and adults ' from 9.30 to 10 a.m. This is a special class ahd adults who are interested are invited to attend the baths at the specified time. Most adult non-swimmers are self-conscious at the thought of being taught at such a late stage but by availing themselves of this opportunity they will gain confidence without being ridiculed. After all, swimming is only 'a matter of confidence. It is far more ridiculous to be unable to swim at all than to hand oneself over tc an instructor who can teach you within a couple of hours and so — -earn t£ sSwim npw! ^ Many a person's life coufd Have beeh saved had they been able to float or swim a few strokes. 1 Remember. — Members must have season tickets as well as payment of subscriptionS. By the way subscriptions are due now so save that rebate by paying before January 31. °
