AUCKLAND, Jan. 2(5. ]\[o(lern vandals in New Zealand matc-hed the recorils of the lifth cen- ' tury barbarians, said the Wellington Director of Parks and Reserves (Mr. E. Hutt) todav -at the eonference or tlie New Zealand Institute of Parks Adniinistration executives. Thirteeu delegates keenlv debated the vandalism problem. Mr. Hutt said that works of art, valuable trees, national memorials and rare and precious wild life had all been seriously affected. Tlie Wellington Citv Council had, witliout result, sought power to appoint loeal wardens. Vandalism should be attacked as a national rather than a local problem. One of -the major causes was lack of home life and home training. The educational svstem had failed to create a sense o£ civic pride. Citizenship should be tauglit to children.
