Taxi Driver On Unusual Charge
AUCKLAND, Jan. 26. An unnsual prosecution was brought. by the Auckland City Coun^il traffic de- 1 partment against a taxi driver today. Defendant, the operator of a private liiie taxi, admitted the information that he had charg'ed less than the usual fare and that he had accepted two individual hirings. Counsel said defendant had been operating on a private lieence for manv \ears. On this occasion lie had split the fares among several people rather : than charge one person the Tui] . fare. He had no desire to undercut anyone. Ihe Magistrate said defendant knew the condi tions of his licence and knew the reasons for them. For uudereharging lie would be fmed £1 and for taking two fares £2.
