Competing on their home track, Levin athietes and cyclists piled up a large numbef of points in thg Hunter ' Shield 'competition, tlie totals being:— Levin 66, Otaki 3'7, Foxton 24, Shannon 16. The next inter-club night will be lield qt Shannon on Tuesday, February 1, whep the other three district clubs will all compete. ' Highlight of last evening's programme""was the appearance of the "ordinary'- qr penny-farthiiig biqyclg, Camerqn W.ebb doing a circuit of the track on the old timer followed by a demonstration ride by the owner of the " machine, Pat Dooley, "who literally " "burned up the track" as he sailed round the bitumen. Much gopd.. hearted ' appiause greeted t'he young demonstrators. Next , Monday's novelty event will be a tug of war between seven cyclists and seven runners. The Golden -Helmet changed hands twice during the evening, Ross Harper defeating Noel Parker early in the programme only to lose it to Don Yeates at a later stage. The three milg open cycle was a particuiarly good race, Ross Harper eoming round the field at the entrance to the straig'ht to gain a goqd lead which, hg succesgfully hgld.
