ROYAL VICTOR PROSPECT FOR MONDAY

L.M.M.)

Da Vinci In The Sprint Leyma's Douro Cup Chance

(Special from

WELLINGTON, January 22. The fields for the second day of the Wellington Racing Club's summer meeting at Trentham on Mond'ay (Anniversary Day) are ekpected to be almost as large as they are today withi a number of fresh horses engaged. This will not help patrons who are relying on first day form to assist them in speculation in a number of races. However, if the going is good form should prove f'airly reliable. .

It is - difficult at this stage tc know the" intentions of owners, as acceptances for Monday do not close until tonight, prospects for the second day being ta-ken from the nominations. Today's form in the Wellington Cup might have a bearing on the result of the" Wellington Racing Club Handicap • on Monday. Outside of today's form in the Cup a fresh horse to take his place in Monday's field will be the Wairarapa Cup winner Royal Victor. His form at the. Wairarapa meeting over- the New Year period was outstanding. He has had a brief spell since then. His track work at Opaki during the week has been such as to make him a distinct prospect in Monday's main event. He will certainly find the opposition much stronger than was the case at Wairarapa, but his -galloping ability is undisputed dnd the distance should not worry him. Form in today's sprint should work out fairly reliable for Mon^ day. At this stage it would appear like Da Vinci an'd Citril dominat- 1 ing the field, but in Full Play, The1 Pagan, Fluorescent Light, Magical, Castlebrae and Jan there will be plenty to make'an interesting race of it. The Douro Handicap, the richest hack race in the country, is sure to draw a record field. At this stage Leyma's form has been so consistent that, if started, I expect to go very close to winning. No doubt the form in today's hack events will have a bearing on prospects for the Douro Handicap, but at the time of writi'ng early^ this morning Leyma's . most serious opposition should come from Vir-j ginius, Telegram, Brookland, Gay Gordon, Solimbine, Corofin and| Lady Minter. The last named will | appreciate the distance. Following are the prospects for |

i Monday's fields, sumrfied up from : the nominations: ; 11.0. — Mungaroa Highweight • Handicap (11 furlongs) — Palissy, . Pimlico, Nepeta. 11.55. — Gloaming Stakes (1£ miles) — Tauloch, Hasty Glance, Boy'nood. 12.45. — January Handicap (1 mile) — Magical, Jan, Torrent. 1.35. — Camp Hack Handicap (11 furlongs) — Hush, Boyhood, Arctotis. 2.25. — Wellington Racing Club Handicap (li miles)— Royal Victor, Gay Stroller, King's Ransom. 3.15. — Nursery Handicap (6 furlongs) — Gold Script, Birdman, Marloch or Abbotsford. 4.5. — Metropolitan Handicap (7 furlongs) -^-Da Vinci, Citril, Full Play. 4.55. — Douro Habk Handicap (1 mile) — Leyma, Virginius, Telegram or Lady Minter.
