Scout Commissioner For Horowhenua

_ — m ■ , — I. ^ ' Advice has just been received by Mr. V. E. Hudsori, of Levin, of his appointment to the position of Scout Commissioner for the Horowhenua. This is the first occasion that such an appointment has been made in this district, the area being "previously under the direct jcontrol of the- Co.unty - Coiamis- | sioner. > The HoroWnenua- district I at the moment incorporates Fo'xton, Shannon, Poroutawhao and 'Levin, and the need for the api pointment of . a commissioner has • be'gn . brought about by the ti'eimend'ous growth of scouting1 'throughout the area. ' :j * Mr. Hudson's first official duty; ) will be to attend the reception .to" Lord Rowallan, Chief Empire ! Scout, at Palmerston North on Saturday. I The appointment of Mr. Hudsan will be received with consi'derable Isatisfaction by scouts in the dis^ j crict. He has always taken a keen ! and. active interest in scouting, and jfor the last two years has been on i the. local committee and its chairjman during the present term. He is a keen adyocate of sending as ,many scouts *as possible to jamborees, both at home and abroad, >as was illustrated by the manner in j which he and his committee went i to considerable trouble to. enable ] Troop Leader Ian Wenham to ] secure transport to the recent PanPacific. jamboree in Australia. ; His son, Trevor, is assistant scout- • master of the Levin Troop and was one of those who attended the jamI boree in France. ■ , I Gommissioner Hddson - came to [Levin from Hastings in 1939. -He is an old boy of the Palmerston North Boys' High School, and served on the Levin ' Borough Council as a councillor from February, 1946, until November, 1947. There is-' every hope that the scouts in Levin will soon have a building of their own, and the visit i of Lord Rowallan will undoubtedly have the effect of still further increasing interest in scouting in Levin and throughout the 'district, not only among the youth but ; the public also.
