Person nl Misses R. and D. Warren, of Hawera, arrived yesterday evening to spend a few days as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Parr, Thompson Street. Miss Rona Haley, of Auckland, who has been spending a holiday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Haley, Graham Street, xeturned to the city last evening. Mr. R. Wilson, of Petone and for merly of the local staff, arrived in Shannon yesterday afternoon to spend a few days holiday here. During his stay Mr. Wilson is at the Albion Hotel. Removal Of Church* After standing for 50 years on its site - in Bryce Street, the Ven. Bede's Anglican Church is now being shifted to a new site next to the Parish Hall in Stout Street. The work of removing the church in sections has commenced and the greater part of the building is awaiting re-erection on the new site. Welcome Rain The rain which comfnenced to fall during the early hours of this morning will be very welcome to both farmers and gardeners. Conditions, especially around the lower Moutoa, were becoming very dry and several farmers who rely on tanks for their water were becoming worried, as their supply had dropped to a low level. Concern At Burglaries The Foxton Chamber of Commerce is concerned at the number -of hurglaries which have been taking place in recent months and is desirous of eonsidering ways and means of meeting the situation andyif possible, securing additional assistance for the local police force. Business men and other interested persons last evening attended a meeting to discuss the position. Moutoa Pony Club Members of the Moutoa Pony Club visited Rongotea last Saturday to take part in the sports meeting held there. Members met fcuth considerable. success and the following received placings:-— Best hack: L. P. McCarthy 1. Maiden hunters, 10.7 and over: P. J. McErlean 1. Maiden pony jump: D. Barber 3. Musical chairs: B. Newth 1. Open hunters competition: L. P. McCarthy 2., Tilting the ring: L. P. McCarthy 2., Consolation hunters: P. Bang -2.
