WELLINGTON, Jan. 17. A number of police promotjons was announced today by the Conimissioner of Police, Mr. J. Cummings. Inspeetor D. J. M. Hewitt is to be a. Superinijendent aiid will remain at New. Plymouth. Sub-Inspector C. Murphy, Rotorua, is promoted inspeetor and transferred to Napier. His place: will be taken by Gub-Inspeetor W. Uarran, 6f Auckland. Sub-Inspector J. Walsh, at present in -t-harge of deteetives at Auckland, is promoted Inspeetor in the same position. Senior-Sergeant F. C. Harrison, of Newmarket, Auckland, is promoted Sub-Inspector and transferred to the Auckland wharf police. Senior Detective E. M. Thomas, of Timaru, is transferred to Wellington and pro moted to Sub-Inspectof. Sub-Inspector R. Thompson, of Wellington, is promoted Inspeetor and will temporarily fill the position of Inspeetor in charge of deteetives, Wellington, Inspeetor j.
