. Cogvright)
Received Tuesday, 10 a.m. DURBAN, Jan. 17. Six more victims of the rioting died in hospital, bringing the total death roll to 111. The storm centres are now quiet and the only incident after midnight was an attempt by four Africans to set fire to an Indian house. The police caught the natives redhanded. *=» Before midnight, however, Indians .shot dead an African woman arid battered another African to death. DUring this pre-midnight flare-up of the violence, Africans burned down four more Indian houses. MOst Africans have returned to work and the Indians are filtering back to their wrecked and gut-ted homes. It is expected that the death roll will be greatly increased by the discovery of bodies now hidden in the rubble of destroyed buildings, or concealed under bushes. 1 Inquiry To Be Made In Capetown today, the Pr'une Minister, Dr. Malan, announced that the Government had decided to appoint a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the Durban racial riots. An Indian leader in Durban said that the rioting had been organised by political forces to "bring about disunity and enmity between the two races."
