Fire Brigade Answers Two Calls
;On Saturday afternoon an alarm sounded through the telephone exchange saw the Otaki Volunteer Fire Briga'de rushing to Rangiuru to quell a rubbish fire. which had become out of harid. By the time the brigade ■ arrived the outbreak had been subdued and there was no sign of any fire. On Sunday .afternpon dense clouds of smoke, which the fairly stiff southerly wind that was blowing over the town, were the forerunner of another call for the brigade, a large gorse fire on the old river bed having spread towards several residences in Kirk Street. The brigade was promptly on the scene, although members who arrived by private means had a major task-of making any headway through the army of children, who all hea'ded in the direction of the fire. As water wks some distance away, the brigade fought the outbreak with sacks, and had it under control in about an hour.
