Ghiang Calls On Forces To Stand AsOne Man

Received Monday, 10.10 a.m. NANKING, Jan. 16. President Chiang Kai-shek called on the Nationalist armed forces to "wipe Out all past humiliations" when he spoke at a military ceremony at the $Un Yat Sen Mausoieum today, according to an official version released six hours after the Generalissimd spoke. President Chiang urged the armed forces to stand as one man in ajsupreme eflort to consummate the revolution, for only thus, he said, would tliey be ti'uly honest followers of Dr. Sun Yat Sen. Eiaborate security preeaUtions and official secrecy surfOUnded the ceremonv at the mausoleum._ The ceremony started fresh rumours that President Chiang made his iast public appearance and paid his respects to the tomb of the father of China's tottering Nationalist Republic, American-eq'uipped military police, with rifles and tonlmy-gUns, .ined the route frOm President Chiang s maiision to the foot of .;he mausoleum. At the entrance to the maUsoleUm grounds tentfarmoured cars and 30 tatiks lined up for review, and about 20,000 troops paeked the stairs and overflowed around the mausdleum. MeanwhilC, the war frdnt situation continues to deteriorate. Pengpu, which is the key point of the Hwai River outer defence screen for the capital, fell into Communist hands today. The Communists are noW said to be adtfaricing down the Pengpu-Pukdw railway in the direction of Mingkwang, northWest of Nartking. Communist Peace Terms The Communists have offered the following terms for peace With ffie Nationaiists: — Firstiy, the trial jf all "war criminals" headed by Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek and his wife; secondly, canceilation of the present constitution; third:y, the canceilation of the "treach-31-ous" treaties With the imperialist nations; fourthly, the formation of a State CoUncii to inclUde ail Chinese elements except the "reActionaries"; fifthly, calehdar years to be counted from Aniio Domini, instead of from the foundation of the Republic; sixthly, the elimination of reactionaries from the Government and army; seventhly, uhe . coniiscation of '"bureaucratic" capitai; and eighthiy, land rfiforms.. The Communist leader, General Mao, cailed upon President Chiang ;eo- show sineerity in -his desire ior .eace by accepting the conditions.
