HASTINGS,.. Jan. 12. Values for top quality lines of store lambs at Stortford Lodge today, were fully maintained on those ruling at the opening sale of the year. Farmers were offered some attraetive lines in the yarding of 11,000 head whieh included several pens of older sheep's Despite the deterioration of rape eyops in some districts, farmers sliow eonfidenee ih feed prospeets, the opinion being expressed that clover would be plentiful when the grass seed erops were lifted. This eonlidenee was refleeted in the healthy tone of the sale. Woolly lambs in forward order made to 32s, best shorn sorts bringing 30s ld. The best priee of the sale for woolly wether lambs was obtained at 32s 4d. The lambs were well woolled and even, requiring little topping-olf. A good eale among the shorn lambs was a draft of 15-4 (big framed and carrying plenty of eondition) at 30s ld. The yarding eontained an odd pen of-ewe lambs wliich were keenly sought after. An earmarked line of 120 nicely grown woolly ewe lambs ehanged hands at 36s, Attraetive breeding propositions were offered. Two-shear ewe eonsignments found a market at 43s and 40s 6d,.the differenee in priee being attributftble to one draft being late shorn. Values for twotooth wetliers lirmed considerablyj pens of these sheep in sound condition making over 3os. Best shorn wether lambs realised to 80s ld with others at

25s to 25s 5d and inferior at 22s 9d. Good woolly wether lambs sold at 30s ld to 32s 4d, niedium quality bringing 28s to 29s ld and light 25s. Down cross lambs in wool vealised 26s 3d to 31s ld, good ewe lambs made to 36s, two-tooth wethers ranged from 34s to 35s, two-shear ewes ehanged hands at 40s 6d to 43s and four-tooths bronghr 29s 9d. Though ' quality was not partieularly featured in the fat sheep, the market was sound due to a short yarding. With lambs in killable order in the store pens, butchers aperated in that department before attending the fa.t sheep sale. Prime aged ewes realised 27s ld to 28s ld, others bringing 25s 4d. Prime young ewes were exchaqged at 30s ld to 33s 4d, good young Down ewes brought 35s 7d to 36s lOd and others ehanged hands at 28s ld to 32s lOd. Ileavy wethers were knocked down at 40s lOd to 42s ld, medium weights brought 36s ld to 37s 7d and light 32s ld to 35s 10d. Good lambs changeq hands at 36s 4d, lighter making 32s 4d. There was only a small yarding of store eattle but the market was buoyant. A pen of 11 four-year empty P.A. eows made £12 2s, a pen of 28 yearling P.A. steers made £9 11s, and seven twoyear P.A. steers made £10 12s 6d. Offered together, flve eows and one hei(fer made £11. Eleven smaller year' ling. steers made £7 16s and eight fairly forward yearling P.A. steers reaehed £10 17s 6d before being knocked down Three yearling P.A. heiferS from the saine consignment made £8 16s. There was a notiecable lirining in the beef market when a yarding of 130 head attracted keen interest. Prices generally were np on those of thd previous sale. Most bulloeks were well linished and met wrth a ready demand. A consignment of six solid P.A.- bulloeks topped the sale. None of them would kill ont at less than 900 lbs. and one sold at £25 lls, another at £24 18s 6d, two at £24 13s 6d and two at £23 18s 6d. A consignment of 15 P.A. and Hereford bulloeks also prompted spirited bidding and topped the £25 mark. The three heaviest P.A. bulloeks from this lot made £25 3s 6d and the others ranged over £24 3s 6d to £23 Ss 6d, Best Herefords sold well. A ilnished bullock made £25 3s 6d and others brought from £23 3s 6d to £23 18s 6d. The remainder of the ox beef was medium weight but showed good quality. A consignment of 11 good summer quality P.A. steers were keenly sought after and prices ranged over £19 6s, £19 18s 6d, £20 lls, £21 ls, £21 3s 6d to £21 8s 6d. Good quality Hereford eows made up to £17 3s 6d and the range included prices of £14 13s 6d, £13 18s 6d and down to £13 ls. Bunner steers brought from £8 8s 6d to £13. Vealers brought £7 4s.
