WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. The defeat by unseeded players of Mrs. J. Robb (Hutt Vailey) seecled fourth in the singles and Misses 'V. .Johnson and II. Redwood (Auckland) who had the last seeding in the doubles, were the main upsets when the New Zealand tennis chanipionships were contiuued at Central -Park today. Mrs. Robb went down to Mrs. E. Anderson (Wellington), the earlier con'queror of tlie eighth seeded piayer, Mrs. Graham (Hutt Vailey). The two Auckland girls lost to the more experienced Mesdames Ilart and Lawrence (Canterbury). Other highlights of the dav were the live-set victory of A. S. Burns (Auckland) over S. Painter (Wellington), the loss of a set by the' national champion R. S. MeKenzie (Wellington) to 13. Broun (Auckland), and the close' call for the women 's doubles champions, Misses E. G. Attwood (Auckland) and M. Kerr (Otago). They beat Mrs. J. Graham (Hutt Vailey) and the Hutt Vailey junior, Miss J. Pudding, in the tliird set after being down oue set and 3 — 4 in the second. ' l.
