Milner, a retired farmer, of Heagh, a mining village; near Chesterfield, England, has, bought a Breeches Bible printed in 1608. He acquired it at an auction sale. The title arises from the fact that in the 200 Bibles ordered by Queen Elizabeth to be printed after the Reformation there appears the phrase that Adam and Eve "ma'de themselves breeches." Boy Touches Power Line i When he touched an electric power line on the roof of his parents' home, Lawrence Stuart, aged six, son of Mr. A. Stuart, of Moengawahine, North Auckland, received burns and shock. Mr. Stuart was working near by when he saw the boy lying on the roof near the line. The boy was unconscious, but recovered after artificial respiration had been applied. State Houses Allocated The Minister of Rehabilitation, Mr. Skinner, stated yesterday that a further 185 State rental houses and flats were allocated during November, 1948 to returned servicemen of the Second World War, who were eligible for preferential allocation under the ' 50 per cent. quota. This brought the total number of State • dwellings allotted to such applicants to 9527. New Liner For New Zealand Trade The 19,000 tons liner Rangitoto, built for t'he New Zealand Shipping Company, which is to be launched on January 12 from the Vickers Armstrong yard, has 700,000 cubic feet of cargo space of which 500,000 feet are refrigerated. The liner has accommodation for 410 passengers and when her sister ship the Rangitane is completed, the company will be able to resume the four-weekly service to New

Tragedy At Party A birtnday party at Ararua, near Matakohe, on Saturday night ended tragically. Mrs. Amelia | Morris, aged 73, of* Auckland, traveljed to Ararua to surprise her ' grand-daughter, Miss Vera Morris, , by attending her 21st birthday] party. She stayed at the home of her gran'dson, Mr. Eric Morris, i until Saturday night. Then she went to the party, intending to surprise everyone. Mrs. Morris entered the house, where the party was in full swing, but collapsed in tHe hallway and died, - * ' . \
