FEILDING LIVESTOCK SALE

Ari outstanding Jinty of lambs, par- , 'ticularly wliite-faced lambs, met with an excellent response from buyers. at tbe opening sale for tlie New Year at Feilding yesterday. Tbe lambs were in very good eondition, indicating t'he quantity of feed available this year. Tlie quantities of lambs # coming f'orward were not as great tbis year as last/it being obvious that farmers were keen to retain tbeir lambs in tbe face of tbe .favourable wool prices. Tbe olfering came from the wbole ot tbe Feilding district and totalled close on 7000 sheep. The opening sale last year brought somewhere near 10,000 sbeep owing to the lack of feed foilowing drought eonditions. Yesterday tbe sqle was elassed as tbe best for manj years. Tbe good to medium ewe lots soid well and tbe tone of tbe sale was bigli, tbis being indicated by tbe fact that very few lambs soid for less than 20s. Tbe market for station cattle was buoyant with everytbing selling ai prices favourable to tbe vendor. Tbere was a very small entry of potter Jersey aorts and a negliglble number of springing dairy cows and heifers. Tbere were about 150 station cattle comprising Polled Angus, two-year-old steers and an odd pen of bulloelcs. Best price for wbite-faced Wetliers came from a pen of 134 wbicb soid for 33s 4d. A pen of 170 2-th ewes brought 44s, and 107 b.f. lambs brought 32s. Ewe lambs in a Lot of 150 fetcbed 28s ld, 11 t'at ewes were soid for 22s- ld, and 173 sborn woollv lambs brought 34s ld. A pen of 2-th wethers soid for 34s 2d and 51 b.f. 2-ths went for 35s 9a. Store Sheep. Tbe largo oll'ering of store lambs included many line quality lines from tbe liills and was characterisbd by an absence of poor quality or weak stock. Tbe realisations were: — Wbite-faced wether lambs: 290 at 30s 2d, 108 at 24s ld, 134 at 33s 4d, 145 at 3.1s 4d, 120 at 31s 8d, 200 at 26s 3d, 141 at 20s 3d, 84 at 26s ld, 50 at 25s 2d, 113 at 27s 4d, 141 at 20s 3d, 84 at 20s 7d, 50 at 25s 2d, 15 at 25s ld, 11 at l'-ls ld, 17 at 20s 3d; sboru, 340 at 28s 9d, 103 at 30s, 190 at 28s Od, 73 at 20s 3d, 114 at 29s, 200 at 30s- 6d, 100 at 25s, 179 at 31s Od, 218 at 20s 8d, 50 at 28s, 120 at 29s 2d, 100 at 22s Od, 09 at 22s Od, 74 at 25s, 50 at 22s, 60 at 22s, 72 at 22s, 19 at 25s 3d. Two-tooth ewes: 170 at 44s, 47 at 42s, 14 at 42s. Ewe lambs: 112 at 22s 2d, 04 at 30s, 150 at 28s ld. Woolly la;ubs: Sborn, 181 at 27s ld, 98 at .22s, 173 at 34s 11, 192 at 24s '6d,109 at 28s 9d, 54 at 29s,-- natural, 17- at 21s, 17 at 25s. Two-tootb wethers: 14 at 34s 2d. Fat Sbeep. A small yarding of fat sbeep was oil'ered -aild:',tbe* quotations were:-—"--Fat ewes: 31 at 25s, 11 at 22s ld, 9 at 21s ld, 9 at 10s 10d.- Others olfered were: 01 fat lambs at 32s 7d, 2 fat b.f. lambs at 28s lOd, 43 fat wethers ' at 37s ld, 4 fat b.f. lambs at 37s 4d, 1 fat S.D. ewe at 21s lOd, 1 fat wether at 21s lOd, S fat Jtombs at 31s ld, 9 fat ewes at 10s lOd. Station Cattle. Quotations were: 32 1\A. steers at £13, 25 P.A. steers at £11 17s, 20 P.A. steers at £1.1 13s Gd, 30 P.A. steers at £10 10s, 17 Sbortborn eross bullocks at £15. Dairy Cattle.
