PLANES FOR EGYPT SEIZED IN U.S.A.
Received Friday, 8.50 p.m. 1 WARRINGTON, Jan. 7. The Federal Government today took possession of five crated military pianes which officials described as unauthor. ised arms fjiipment believed to be hound for Egypt. The Assistant United States Attorney (Mr. Roger Yancev; obtained a Federal eourt order granting the Government custody of the pianes which were "seized at Newark (New Jersey) as they were being ioaded into an Egyptian Cargoship. klr. Yance; said the pJanes wero n^arkcd for sliip ment to Djibuti (Abvssinia), but thi United States Government learned that the cargo would be diverted to Egypt. The United States Attorney (Mr. Alfred E. Modarelli) said a man identif'ying himself as John A. Roman'o, of-New York City, had been granted permission to export one plane whicli he said he wanted for aerial . photography at Djibuti. Official suspicions were aroused when Itomano applied i'ur permission to ship four other pianes j;o Djibuti. The Attorney said the aircraft were North Ameriean photo reconnaissance pianes' and he believed they were readily convertible for fighter use.
