Quiet New Year's Eve

New Year's Eye in Shannon was l one of the quietest ever eelebrated in the town. The business people reported very little shopping activity and there was a marked absence of young f olk . in holiday mood. This is perhaps due to the fact that the young people are attracted by the crowds and bright ■lights of the city, and many made their way to Palmerston North, By midnight there were very few people on the streets, although there were seveyal parties of "first footers" makirig the rounds. The streefcs were very* tidy on New Year's Day.
