Three New Ships Arrive On Friday

WELLINGTON. Jau. 4. Three new ships, ou t.lieir maiden voyages tq New Zealand from United Kingdom shipyards, will be at AVellinglou on Friday. Tliey are the liner Cerainic, the intercolonial vessel Kaitoke, and the coaster Puriri. The Cerainic arrived from Auckland ou Saturday, the Kaitoke from Dunedin recently, and the Puriri is duc on Friday. Arriving at Auckland on December 17 wjth 80 passengers and a general cargo from Livorppol, the Ceramic is a 15,000-ton twin-screw vessel, built by Cammell Laird and Companv Liihited, of Birkenhead, for the Shaw Savill Liiie. The Kaitoke, whicli is a 3543-ton vessel, was built by A. Stephen iand Sons, Limited, of^ Glasgow', for The Union Steam Ship Companv. The Puriri, which was launched at Robb's vards, Edinburgh, last July by Mrs. E M. Campbell — a daughter of a former managing director of the Anchor Shipping Company — is a twin-sercw vqssel with a cargo capaeity of 55,000 eubic feet. . After loading cold stores at Wellington and New Plymouth, the Ceramic will return to the United Kingdom via Panama. The Kaitoke shortly will make her first intercolonial voyage, and the Puriri her first coastal trip. The Puriri is replaeing the Anchor Company 's former Puriri, which' wgs mined Avhile,serving as a 'sweapep in. ' t&e Soutkeast -N.
