WANGANUI, Jan. 4. The New Zealand chess championship which concluded here tonight, was won by A. E. Nield (Auckland) when lie beat R. O. Seott (Wellington) in Ihe last game of the final round. Final points in the championship were: — Nield. 9, D. J. Lynch (Hastings) 8 J, H. McNabb 7, A. L. Fletcher 04, R. O. Seott 6, N:' M. Cromarty (Q-, A. W. Gyles 5, T. Lepviikmann 41, N. 5. Henderson 3-1, C. E. Tiundle 34, J. F. Lang 3, R. E. Baeyertz 3. Tlie major open tourney resulted in a tie between. W. Reindler, of Wanganui, and W. E. Moore, of Christchurch, eaeli with 8 points. The first class contest was won by W. Pearse, of Temuka, with 9|. A. J. Ratclifl: and A, G. Jones were runnersup equal, 9 points eaeh.
