Model Aeroplanes in Competition
WANGANUI, Jan. 3. A quarter-mile swim to retrieve a wayward model, provided a hint of the comic in the New Zealand Model aeronautical Association's first national championships which are now in pro-, gress at Castlecliff. A competitor was lent a rubber raft to recover a "ditched" model. A record for the rubber-powered fuselage rise-off ground class was broken t-wice on Saturday, first by M. Craven (Auckland) with a flight of five minutes flve secernds and then by N. Hewitson (Auckland with a flight of Beven minutes one see-ond. A, McDonald (Auckland) broke the record in. the "round the pole" class yesterday with a time of four minutes 14 1-5 seconds, a minute and a half above the old record. spolce briefly of the. reeovery which had been made by Britain since the conclusion of hostilities and the way in which the spirit of the people bad been jaaintained.
