The news of the death of Mr. William Frederick Ryder, which occurred unexpeetedly at his residence in Mako Mako Road yesterday morning, came as a shock to his many friends in Levin, where he had resided for a number of years and was widely known. Born at Riwaka, Nelson, 47 years ago, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Ryder aud was married in 1930 to Miss Elizabeth Ellen Houlihan, of Levin. Left to mourn their loss are his Widow and two sons, Tony and Martin. Mr. James Frederick Smith, whose death occurred in Wellington recently, will be remembered father purchased a stable in Queen Street some 50 years ago apd Mr. Smith assisted him in driving the cabs, becoming a familiar figure in the town. He was 62 years of age and had resided in Wellington „ for some time nrior to his death. Mr., Smith is survived by three sisters, Mesdames E-.- McGovern (Christchurch),- M. Musgrove (Frankton Junction) and- G. O'Brien (Sydney), and two brothers, Messrs. W. D. Smith (Newcastle, Australia) and Syd Smith (Napier),
