Otaki Women's Institute Meets
The Deeember meeting of the Otaki Women's Institute, hevd recently, was presided over by the president, Mrs. J. Ross, who welcomed all members and friends, and wished everyone a happy afternoon. Mrs. Ross tol'd of the interest of members in the school of proeedure held recently. It was decided! that the institute join the Forest and Bird Society. Mrs. H. N-colson reported on the packing of the November overseas parcei. In place of the customary exchange of Christmas gifts between memcers a coliection was taken up, resulting in the sum of £3 ls 6d for overseas parcels. Mrs. A. E. Taylof and Mrs. H. Nicolson offered to paek and send these parThe thought for the month was given by Mrs. C. Parrant. Results i of competitions held were: — Best flower and shrub: Mrs. - Heatherwick. Jar of muncemeat: Mrs. S. Brooks. Christmas novelty: Mrs. R. T. Mould. The meeting then took the form of a social afternoon. A cempetition arranged by Mrs. C. Robertson was won by Mrs. J. Kendrick. Mrs. McConville entertained with a humorous story, wh.de members of tne "drama circle gave much pleasure in the presentation _of a play entitled, "Where Every Prospect Pieases." Those taking pari were Mesdames A. Empson, F Hunter, L. Housiaux and H. Gower, JMrs. L. Moss, the producer of the iplay, was presented wnh a floral ' spray by the president. who ex;pressed the thanks and pleasure oi i members at tne able manner in j which the play was presented. . Mrs. Hunter presented Mrs. Ross with a sheaf of gladioli. and the treasurer and secretary, Mesdames [K. Tayior and N. Radciiife respectively, with floral sprays as gifts from the garden circle. Mrs. Ross presented Mrs. Hunter, as leader of the garden circle, with d potted maideniyM^ern. A afternoon tea was servl^^HpHbe hostesses after ; wb n g cirtfe, under the cf Mr. W. H. Townrow^^HP.d a bracket of songs whiclPPPre greatly appreciated by all. Mrs. Hunter presented Mrs. Bartholomew, who had acted as pianist, with a floral spray and Mr. Townrow was the recipient of a buttonhole. The singing of Christmas carols concluded a very happy gathering. The. president, Mrs. Ross, thanked all who nad contributed to the success of the afternoon, and extended Christmas greetings. '
