Imperial And Barrage In Raukawa Handicap Divisions
The Otaki-Maori Racing Cluh's summer meeting was held in hrilliant sunshine and there was a large attendance. The course was fast and there was good racing, the feature events heing won hy Imperial1 and Barrage (Raukawa Handicap divisions), and hy Veine d'Or.

Melite and Ilaughij Boy were promiiient ahead of Beauform and Chip, Amiouncer and Refleet as tiie first division rau to the straight, but Melite's bit slipped tlirough and he rau wide, leaving Beauform, Refleet, Clnp and Announcer in eliarge. Chip hit the front a furlong from honie but Announcer linished just too well for the grey. Aratucky iinished well for tliird a leng'iii away, and Beauform was fourth. Irish Gold and Aki Aki wero togctlieJ in front of Sentimental, Klbogen and Diplomuey as tiie seeond division rau to Ihe straight, and Aki Aki finislied w-eil half a length in front of the fast-linishing Elbogen. Irish Gold was hall' a length further back and next were Sentiineiital, Crusanne and Diplomiiey. Beau Raide, 15-14 Lord Phrosa, 7-7 Mission. Half a length; head. Zealander was fourth. Time, 2.6. (Winner trained by F. R. Gough, Carterton.) There was only one scratching and the Raukawa Handicap was run in divisions. The first division was won by Imperial from Yasda, and the second by Barrage from Second Seal. They were run in fast time. Cressida set them a merry dance in the first division. She raced to the front and was well clear as they made the turn. Six furlongs from home she was over 12 lengths clear of Yasda, and Balcherrie, Lowry Bay, Imperial, Embrolita and Angell were next in order. Imperial made a fast move forward at the half-mile and Cressida, Yasda, Imperial, Embrolita and Lowry Bay were in close order into the straight. Imperial. lieaded Yasda at the distance and won attractively by two lengths from Yasda, half a length in front of Kmbrolita. Riverview was fourth, followed by Tenor Royal, Cressida, Lowry iiav and Angell. Clyde Bridge and Mission began best in the second division and at the five furlongs Second Seal and Beau Raide led from Mission and Clyde Bridge, Zealander, Lord Phrosa, Barrage, Dunbar and Indian Song. Barrage moved forward at the half-mile and he was in close attendance on Second Seal and Beau Raide, Mission and Clyde Bridge as they swung. -into the straight. followed by Bonnie Eair, Balcairn ^ and Carmelita. Balcairn, Theio Light 'and Royal Cambria were slow to l'eave the mark. Air Belle Was with Whitley to the' straight but» she did not go on with it and finislied well back. Castlebrae was the favou'rite but,, after bei'ng well placed early, finished .last but two.
