Carnival Committee To Hold Gala Day
A well-attended meeting of the Town Queen committee of the' memorial hall carnival was. held- in the' Council Chambers oh Thursday, evening, when it was decided tb itage, a gala day on Mr.; Higgie's property, on the banhs of the Manawatu River; on December 27. Mr. V. J. Bateman stated that the secretary of the Manawatu Boating Club had c'oritacted him regarding arrangements for the meeting of the boat crews of the Palmerston North to Foxton boat race, which would be taking place on December 27 and 28: Mr. Bateman went on to state that the council had left the arrangements in his hands and1 it had been decided that one of the carnival committees might take the opportunity of holding a function at the river. The town committee had accepted the day afid the object of the meeting was to make arrangements. Although the main attractions would be the arrival of the boats in the late afternoon, several other attractions would have to be arranged, stated Mr, Bateman. The committee decided that the function would take the form of a gala day and sports meeting. Athletic events and e.vents by the Moutoa Pony Club would be held. The local Maoris had offered their assistance and hakas of welcome and other native numbers would be presented. It was agreed that the programme commence at 1.30 p.m. Arrangements were also made regarding the meeting of the boat crews and the provision of refreshmen^s'
