(N.Z.P-&.-

Reuter. . C(xci>Haht)

Receiv6d Friday, 7 p.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 9., The New York Daily Mirr'or tonight reports that it learns on high authority that his physicians are oh the verge of ordering King George to have one or both legs amputated to check fatal gangrene from Buerger's Disease wherefrom he is suffering. The Mirror reports that so critical is the situation that an Ameriean authority on vaseular diseases has flown from New York to Buckingham Palace" for consultation on the treatment of the King. The Mirror says newspaper correspondents are only now learning how the King concealed his illness for eight years by devious means, including the use of a "paneake" makeup to cover the pallor caused by the disease because he was " unwilling to add to the anxieties of his subjects during the war years." The paper says Buerger's Disease is named after Dr. Leo Buerger who first diagnosed it in 1908, and is eharacterised by thrombosis of the arteries and veins in the extremities. Inflammation customarily develops around the blood vessels and the flow of blood is sbut off from the legs creating danger of gangrene MediCal circles believe excessive smokin'g is the chief contributory cause of Buerger's Disease, says the Mirror.
