Otaki Borcugh Council Meets The monthly meeting of the Otaki Borough Council was held on Wednesday night, the Mayor Mr. C. F. Atmore presiding. There were also present Crs. K Ames, N. D. Anderson, E. CoOk, H. W. Hakaraia,' J. Retter and G. McKinley, and the town clerk, Mr. Alex. Wilson. An application from Mr. J. E. James, headmaster of the Otaki State School, seeking the use of the domain for school sports on December 16 was granted. Tne secretary of the library committee, Mr. R. T. Mortiboy, wrotb to the council recommending that the appointment of Miss E. Taylor as librarian be confirmed, following her satisfactory completion of the six ltionths' proba,tionary period. ' Appiications for extraordinary water supplies were received from Messrs. D. G. Sutherland and W. K. Cook, of Otaki Railway, and Mr. R. N. Tahiwi, of Convenrt Road. They were granted. Mr. H T Mould, of Te Manuao Road, Otaki Raiiway, soughc per.mission for the laying of a 1-inch water pipe from tne Main.Road to his property, a distance of approximately 650 feet. The requesl was granted. An application from A!an Murrell, o-f Te Horo, ■ for an oinmbus driver's licence was granted. A ■ circular letter from the Health Department asked that the sanitary inspector give adequate time to routine inSpections of houses. The matter is to be given attention. The Housing Constructicn Division forwarded a copy of a plan of the proposed street to serve the State 'houseS to be erected off Matene Street. It was dscided to ask for minor adjustments. Mr. C. J. Pussell, for the Sports Queen committee, wrote asking for perm sSion to hold a concert on Sunday, December 19. This was granted. A letter from the manager of the New Zealand Railways pubijicity and advertising section advised that the matter of viewing the paintings of Otaki had not been overlooked and that", the department looke'd forward to a suitable opportunity of discussing the possibility of displaying the paintlngs. The letter was received. The Otaki Amateur Atnletic and Cycling C!ub forwarded dues, and renewed its request for the use of the domain for evening sports, and for the annual evsnt- on January 8. The club also expressed its thanks for the work done, adding tliat the track and ' grOunds were dn flrst class order 'and a credit. The application was granted. Mr. F. H. Critchley wrote advising that many residents of the beacn viewed with great concern the proposal to~ alter the mouth of the Waitohu. and suggested that an opportunity be given residents of expressing their opinion. The communication was received.
The distrlct engmeer oi tne Works Department, Wellington, wrote in reply to a requeSt for fdotpath improvements at O aki Railway. He state'd that a survsy fwas needed and it was anticipated the survey party would be on the job shortly, and when proposals were complete'd the council would be further advlsed. — Received. At the conclusion of the meeting the Mayor, Mr. C. F.
