NEW PLYMOrTIl, Dec. 6. Although she is the mother of seven children and lins eight grandehildren. a lnembei' of the Opunake suli-eeutre of the Red Cross .Society, Mrs. E. Briscoe, of Oaonui, was so determined to pass the nursing tests required to fullv qualify as a voluntarv aid that she receutly spent some time nursing at the Hawera Public Hospital. Pavourable comment on her diligence and determi nation was made by delegates to the Soufh Taranaki Red ('ross Centre wlien her achievenients were reported. Mrs. Briscoe has in the past three years sat and passed uine exaniinations in home nursing, urst aid aml hygiene, et the rate of three exaniinations a year, and lias gained the- Merit Medallion award, which also required an at,tendance at a niinimum nuniber of lectures each year. Mrs. Briscoe lives seveii niiles from Opunake, where lectures are held, and her usual inethod of travel was by 'bicycle, although she sometinies rode a liorsc. Tliefe were occasions when she walked the entire distance of 14 'miles. Soon after she ]iassed her Hua I exaniinations Mrs. Briscoe ]»resente! her husband with their youngest child, a daughter.
