Sports Decided For Empire Games
• AUCKLAND, Dee. 6. The Empire Games will be held at Auckland from February 4 to 11 inclusive, 1950. When the f ull organising cqmmittee of 15 members was appointed tonight, it was decided that the sports for- the Games should be athletics, boxing, w'restling, weight-lifting, swimming, fencing, lawn tennis, bowls, rowing and c.yeling. The programme of events will closely follow that of previous Empije Games' festivals. The official invitations. to Empire c'ountries to compete in the festival, will shortly be distributed. His Maje.sty, the King, is to be asked to acf as patron of the Games and the Gov ernor-Gencral, Sir Bernard Iheyberg, will be approached to be viee-patron The Prime Ministcr has been appointed president and the Mayor of Auckland vice-president.
