Within a furlong of the start of the Canterbury Cup L. J. Ellis, lost his near iron and Bruce pulled his way to the front to raee away to a ten lengths leaci. Going down the back Beau le Havre moved up to Golden Aniber and the paii sleadily closed on Bruce. Approaching the straight entrance, however, Bruce was far from finished with, and in a great battle all the way up the straight, Lieau le Havre being under the whip'on the outer and Golden Amber putting in a claim 011 the rails, a photo finish was necessary to determine the winner, t'he yerdict going to Bruce by a fraetion of a nose, with a length to Golden Amber.
