Thieves Choose Anchors And Seedlings
GISBORNE, Dec. 2. "Two-thirds of the seedlings planteu out at the GisborTve botanical gardens are removed by thieves and vandals, " said Mr. R. Morae, chairnian of the He.serves ('onnnittee, at a lneeting of the Borough rouncil. The supervis-ing gardener reported that half Ihe spring tlowering bullis and rose buslies had been taken from the main border oi the gardens recentlv. Ten dozen seedlings had also been taken and the planting of heath and dapline had been stopped because they disappeared as soon as tliev were pianted. Mr. I. ,T. Quigley startled the couneil by stating that two 5cwt anchoi's liftd bee'i* stolen from lighters moored in the feasin. It would require a two -man lift to remove tliem, and 'the thieves woutd have liad to go to some trouble to1 unshaekle the anchors before they eould be takou avfay.
