(SPECIAL— FROM
WELLINGTON, T)ecember 3. . So far the New Zealand Cup meeting hksgeen a difficult one for punters to follow, but with the field$ lidt so unwieldly for the concluding day tomoirow, form might jprpve .inor^.reliable. Bruce has come into favour for the classic evenV.the Canterbury Cup, after his fine effort in? the NeW-Zealand''Cup and good track work earlierdn theweek. ' A pleasirigf eature is that the horse has shown no sign Of the soreness wluchjhas troubled this splendid stayer in the pa.st, which is a' good- indication of a ret,urn to- his old brilMance in tomorroWs Cup. NortK Islanders are firm in their contention that Beau le Havre wil/.win the Cup, while'Royal Tan's connections hold high hopes Of success. ' - v
However, it i? sure to prove a keen race befcween three splendid stayers and 'if Bruce repeats his fine- -Cup form I think he will shade* Beau le Havre. Rpyal Tan is: a bbtter horse in handicap racing than weight-for-age, but he can he expected to be with the Beau and Bruce when the pressure is on, . - Liebestraum, witn W. J. Broughton up, will have his chance to make amends in the Fendalton Handicap. The class is not as strong as that he met -in the N.Z. Cup and M'etropolitan Handicap, in- which he. ran a good fourth. He is standing up to his racing lyell and would not need to gteatiy improve to reach the winning list at the meeting. Julius Caesar, the top weight, will be more suited by the distance . of the Members' Handicap, but if Liebestraum is beaten it is more likely to come Ifrom The Grate, Lord Elgin, Sir Garnish or Riverview. Citril's good race in the Jockey Clitb Handicap on the second day makes her a distinct prospect in the Members' Handidap. She is i top class and the best of her form has been shown over seven furlongs. She will find strong opposition in Julius Caesar, Full P.ay, Magical, and Sal's Pal A rather unusual feature at Woodville will be the running of
seven of the eight races in divisions. However, the club holds hopes of at le^st two divisions being avoided.
