New Wage Rates For Farm Workers
WELLINGTON, Dec. 2. ' Foliowing an increase in the labour reward portion of the guaranteed price for butterfat for .thq 1948-49 seasop, the Government has now passed an Agricultural Workers' Wage Fixation Order 11148, providing for a corresponding increase in wages for agricultural workers on dairy farms. The Minister of Labour, Mr. McLagan, toniglit gave the foilowjng details of the new weekly rates which operate from August 1, 1948: — Workers under lf years, £2 9s; 17 and under 18, £3 ls 6d; 18 and under 19, £3 15s; 19 giid under 20, £4 8s; 20 and under '21, £5 0s 6d; 21 years and upwards, £5 13s. These rates are to be increased by 25s" wee|tly where board and lodging is not provided. The foliowing miitimum rates have also been prescribed for casual workers on dairy farms: — Harvesters, 3s Ljd an hour with rations, other workers 2s 7-Jd hourly found (3s lld hot fpund), 21s daiiy found (25s daijy nqt found) ; yqutjis up to 18 years, l's* 9d hourly found (2s 3d not found), 14s dajly found (18s daily not found).
