Personal Mrs. M. Tlppler, ox Carterton, is at present spen-ding a holiday with her mother, Mrs. Crowther, Clapham Street. A Unique Coincidence Speaking at a meeting of the Shannon Sehool Diamond Jubilee Committee on Monday evening, the chairman, Mr. R. J. Law, stated that it was rather a coincidence that the first meeting in connection with the golden jubilee celebrations was held on November 28, .1938, just one day over ten years ago. Fire Siren Tested The Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade tested its newly-erected fire alarm on Monday evening. "The siren was heard from most quarters of the borough, but other tests will be carried out with the view to increaslng the carrying power of the alarm. A small metal box has been fixed to the front of the fire station and the alarm sounds automatically upon breaking the glass front of the box. Once the glass has been broken ihe alarm can only be stopped by switching it off Inside the station. Names Of Ex-pupils Wanted The Shannon School Jubilee Committee is asking for the help of the public in supplying the names and present addresses of any ex-pupils, teachers and committeemen of the local school. ;Smce the golden jubilee celebrajtions, many old pupils have changed their addresses and the committee desires that as many ex- ' pupils and other interested perIsons as possible should be notified ,'of the diamond jubilee of their old1 ] school. Pricr to the celebrations 'ten years ago, replies were received from as far off as South Africa, Palestine, Greece, Australia and England.
