High Scoring In Saturday's . Senior Cricket For the first time so far this season, the batsmen were on top in Saturday's senior cricket—the third series of games in the Horowhneua competitloh,h The' resuit Was .that no eight poi'nt wins were recorded, all the matches beiiig decided over one innings. The successful teams were Old' Boys, Otaki, Foxton, and Shannon. Below are details of the games. Old Boys v. Levin . , Old Boys just failed to gain an eight point win over Levin, but secured an easy five-pointer. Old Boys' made a disastrous start when two wickets fell for three runs,. but the other batsmen settled down and took charge of the bowling. The innings finally clo^ed for the formidable , total of 182 for eight wickets. Feature of the innings and the game was a grand knock for 66 by G. Sciaseia. L. Sciascia (30) , D. Clapcott (27) and A. Walker (22 not out) -helped considerably. D. Lambert and H. Baumber shared the bowling honours, taking four wickets for 73 and three for 34 respectively. The Levin batsmen fai'led against the bowling of V. .Lynch and P. Ga-rdener, eight wickets fialling for only 30 j:uns and the innings closing for 52. A, Fletcher(14) and H. Baumber . (13) were the only double figure scorers. Lynch. captui'ed five wickets for 33 runs and Gardener three 'for 9. Levin followed on and made a. better showing, managing to play out time and avoid -an innings defeat. F. Baumber turned in a useful 35, but- the other batsmen went cheaply. * When .time was called an additional 63 ,runs had been gathered for seven wickets.. Gardener accounted for four xof them and Barraud three. Otaki v. College Otaki won a five pointer over College in their- match, which was decided in the last over under exciting circumstartces. Otaki batted first and placed 152 runs on the board, Flutey (33), O'Brien (31 not out), Rice (20) iand Edwards (20) being largely responsible. Tne wickets fell to Lang (3), McClune and Hamilton (2 each) and Andrews, Chevis and Stevens (one ! each) . College were just one short jof a draw -with one wicket to.fallin the last over of the " day. Then Kirlr caught McLean off Rlce, ' giving Otaki , a win by 31 runs. Qdilege was dismissed for. 121, ! Dorne batted well to finally be sent back . to the pavilion for 53. Andrews I (19) and McLean (14) were the | only others to score double figures. i Dawson, Heatherwick and Rice jeaoh captured three wickets at low cost, while Flutey took one. Weraroa v. Foxton A comfortabie margip. gf 61 runs gave Foxton a five poinh win over Weraroa. Weraroa were, dismissed for 87, Wilson (21), Keenan (17) and Jukes (15) being the only ! batsmen to get among the runs. jOnly six of the wickets fell to the ibowlers, Rogers taking three, Car!mont two. and Sexton one. Foxton replied with 148, largely the resuit of an excellent 54 by jRyburn, . who carried his bat. Hourigan (20), Rogers (19), Carmont (13) and Field (12 not out) were responsible for useful knocks. Saunders, J. Ryder, McDonald, jFerrell, Nichols and Jukes each hook one wicket. . j Shannon v. Paraparaumu ! In tne lowest scoring senior' j game of the day, Shannon took j the honours from Paraparaumu by ' ja margln of 15 runs, gaining five j ! championship points. Paraparaumu had first use of the wicket pid were all out for 60. Lower idge, with 16, was, the only batsman to ^return1' double figures. Harris (three .for- 22), Munford Othree for 6), Moore (two for 21) and McNeil- (two for 6) shared the] wickets. _ | Shannon fared little better hnd | were dismissed for 75. Thomson j made . a useful 19, Tritt and ' Harris 8 each, Norris and Tippler 7 ! each and Ciough and Mc'Neil 6 each. •College II v. College III Playing in the junior competition, College seconds scored an-eight-point win N over College j thirds. Batting first, College" sec- j onds gathered "99 runs, Julius top-l ping t'he batting wiith 36 and j Frederikson notohing a handy 20. j Satherly was the best of the bowl- j ers for College thirds, five of the ' wickets falling to him for only 10 runs. Harvey and Frederikson completely routed the College thirds! batsmen. The first five wickets fell j for only 12 runs,- and this was not j increased, five of the rem'aining batsmen being beaten for "ducks." Frederikson, with four wickets for one run, had exceptional figures, While Harvey, with^four for six, performed nearly as well. ■- V- ' College thirds followed on; but were. only able to add a further 23 runs. Walker (9) headed the batsmen. The bowling honours were shared among Young, Lind, Frederikson, Harvey, Wenham and Keenan. *
