Prospect Of Reduction In Price Of Sugar

— — v — ' AUCKLAND, Nov. 12. The prospect of a reduction in the selling price of refined sugar in New Zealand within a short time was mentioned by Mr. C. W. Eothe, general manageer of the Coionial Sugar Refining Company Ltd., in his report to the half-yearly meeting of the company in Sydney today. He said a reduction followed the alteration in the exchange rate, but the amount of the reduction to the housewife would depend mainly on the Government 's decision as to the continuance of the present subsidy of £4 7s 5d per ton on household sugar. In an interview in Auckland last month Mr. Rothe stated that the landed cost of raw sugar in New Zealand should fall appreciably following the exchange alteration. He said that other faetors such as overseas prices of goods, import duties, subsidies, and internal New Zealand manufacturing and distributing costs would have to be taken into aceonnt before the price to the New Zealand consumers was reached.
