CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 9. The Governm'ent proposes to start in Wellington a training- school for fire brigade officers, particularly 1 execntive officers, from the large. centres. The 'Department of Internal Afl'airs advised .the Christchurch Fire Board Of this in a letter which tlie board received this evening and said that the proposaj was the result' of the findings of the Royal .Conmiission which investigated Ballantyne's fire. To make recQjqmendations on training to the Governnient, . a technical committee has been set up arid.its first meeting will be held in Wellington. on'November 16 and is expected to la'st about one week. ; . . The Department advised the board tiiat the committee will consistijjrf the superintendents of the four jjjrretrppojitan f-.'o brigades, tjie superjntend- ' ents of the Nelson and Palmerston - North brigades, Gaptain T. J. V^atts, .secretary of the United Fire Brigades' Association, .Mr. Glover, secretary of the Federation of Fire Brigadesmen's Fnions, and Mr. S. S. Dean, cliairman of the Wellington Fire Board. The rnspector of Fire Brigades (Mr. R. Girling-Butcher) will act as liaison officer for tlie Department but will not be a member of the committee.
