DUNEDIN, Nov. 8. As the Clutha River fell gradually today, the danger of a break in the stopbanks lessened. The level of the river at Balclutha was 68 feet 4 inches at 10 p.in., still 7 or 8 feet above noruial. A vigilant watch was kept at all points a-pd. ,non-stop patrols were ar^ ranged for tonight. Bpecial attention is devoted to the Waitepeka canal area wliere a serious slip occurred on Sunday* night. So far more than 70,000 bags liave been' ' used in building and etrengthening the stopbanks. These, at a eohservative estimate, ' are valued at 66000.
