Successful Opening Sports Meeting

The Otaki Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club opened its evening sports meetings on the Otaki Domain on Wednes'day, .and it proved highly satisfactory. Visiting competitors from> Palmerston North, Shannon, Levin and Para-^ paraumu took part. The programmes was an- interesting one and the large attendance was treated to some very fine racing, all events being keenty contested. Otaki riders more than held their own in all events. Popular wins were those scored by C. Bloomfield/ now of Palmerston North, and by Clunie, of Paraparaumu, while the local rider, Des. Smith, was another to receive a well-deserved ovation for his fine performances. So keen were the competitors' that the rapidly encroaching darkness meant nothing to them, and the final two events were run in semi-darkness. Results were as followers: — Children's races: Jack Dakin 1, Pat. Ludlam 2; Margaret Bird 1, Dale Cootes 2; Aku Bishop 1, John Nicholls 2; Wilma Vernon 1, Mary Cook 2; Mason Johnson 1, Barry Jensen 2. Junior half mile cycle: R. Collis (90 yds.) 1, C. Wilton (60 yds. ) 2, G. Julius (60 yds.) 3. Also started: F. Dakin (90 yds.) Bonner and Best (80), Mudgway, Brooks, Bartosh ai\d W. Walsh (60) , Roach, Harper and E. Walsh (20) , Smith (scr.) .
