WELLINGTON, November 5. - g . Since resuming racing on it^ .own course after the war the'Levin Racin^.Club has made rapjd headway and today'is irecognised in racing circles as one of the mos,t progressive country, clubs in the Dominion. This is d'tie, no doubt, to the enterprising.club stewards and hard wojrking secretary,' Mr. R. G. Rb&ans, who have left no stone unturned in tjieir endeavours to jilace the. club on a much higher pedestal than pre-war days. Their good work is now reaping its harvest, as is evident by the record fields carded in each event for tomorrow's spring meeting. With the great improvements to its course in recent months, track and accommodation, the club has gro'wn in public popularity, and given fine weather tomorrow the meeting should6 draw a record crowd from Wellington, Wairarapa and Palmerston North. An inspection of the track yesterday by the writer showed it to be in excellent order with a good sole of grass.
Hprses from Auckland andf Hawke's Bay on their way south for the N.Z. Cup meeting, openingj on November 20, together withj those from Trentham and Awapuni-, will compete at Levin tomor-J row. ' Form is well 'disclosed and with such a galaxy clashing tomorrow, good dividends should result in a number of the events. . Provisions for divisions in three of the. events have been provi'ded for, but as several of the horses have duel engagements, prospeicts are that divisions will be avoided in at least.one.. . The Levin Handicap has drawn one of the best fiel'ds seen in this event for years and the class is right up to metropolitan standard. The winner, if a N.Z. Cup candidate is liable to rehandicap. This does not apply to Beau le Havre, who' is ' uTfeady weighted at the maximum. However, the Beau, who. won this event last year and went on to win the N.Z. Cup might no't be quite ready, but on Trentham performances Robin'sj Reward will have a big following, as also will Ballinagh and Renowne'd. The northerner, Ascot Lad, is at tne peak of his form and should be one of the hardest for Robin's i Reward to beat. High Order ha^ been working well at Trentham as also has Distinction, who is greatly improved with recent racing. Iihp_fe$al is fit and Sweet Nymph hasv#ee,n clocking smart sprint timesh'aif Hastings and she snould be to the fore at Riccarton. Voltaic will not be suited by the 'distance, but he should be kept in mind for later in the month. . The .. McDonald Memorial is expectef to provide a splen'did race With such good spri-nters engaged" as Trafalgar Day, Chatscourt, Castlebrae, Concrete, Full of Fun and the improving Co.'opier. With the racing he had at Mascerton^ an'd Trentham Trafalgar Day is practically back to his best forml 'Chatscourt has good Auckland form to recommend him. It will be recalled that Chatscourt is no 1 stranger to Levin as he won his first race there last season. Both Castlebrae and ' Concrete are the feest form sprinters round this quarter an'd both should have a big say i'n the issue tomorrow. Of the others Colopier, Full of Fun and Franada are the best on recent running. Rothnic (T. Poad) went a mile with Tremello (F. C. Cleaver) and in view of the weight they carried it was one of the best trials yesterday at Awapuni. They ran the last seven in 1.32 2-5.
