SATURDAY MONDAY MATINEE SATURDAY 2 PM

This is a comedy dedicated to faith, and faith defined in a line of the dialogue as "believing ip things that common sense tells you not to." It is a neat definition, but almost everything about "Miracle on 34th Street" is equally neat. The William Perlberg production, delightfully written for the screen and directed by George Seaton, may well prove t'o be o-ne of the sleeper hits of the year for 20th-Fox. Not many among the large group of Hollywood press who attended an invitational preview knew anything about the story of the picture, for it had been . deliberately under-publicised. This group awarded "Miracle" a heaty round of applause at its conclusion, an unusual procedure at press showings in a town that makes more movies than it approves. Maureen O'Hara, John Payne with Gene Lockart, head the outstanding cast. For a good tip — BOOK EARLY.
