Salvation Array's Annual Sale Of Work

The Salvation Army's • annual sale of work,- "The Princess Fair," was held in the Salvation Army Hall, Levin, on Tuesday. The hall was tastefully decorated with' red, white and blue-' s'treamers ^orming a huge net aqross the ceiling, large bunches of greenery and flowers of every variety. The many stalls were well laden with produce, cakes and clothes. !■ ' The opening ceremony was conducted by Adjutanfc Elliott Major, who welcomed those present. The hyrnn, "The Lord Is My Shepherd," which was sung at the wedding of Princess Elizabeth and -the Duke of Edinburgh, and which is a favourite . of Her Majesty the Queen, was then sung and, -following a short prayer, Adjutant Major called on Mrs. Major N. Bicknell to oflicially open the function.

She counted it a privilege to be present at the fair and to have the honour of opening it, said Major Bicknell. As she looked around the various stalls she realised the tremendous amount of work involved in preparing for the function. She sincere.y thanked all who had helped in ths work, adding that it was very much appreciated. It was, she realised, a mdst important event, and trusted it would be a very'great success and be profitable from every point of view. In conclusion, she made special mention of the work done by the Iw.C.T.U. and the Home League women, who were responsibl© for [•the great part of the preparations for the fair. . . „

Mrs. Major then presentea Major Bicknell with a bouquet of. flowers. , , During the afternoon a baby show was held and proyed^ to be a great success. Large entries were received and the following the results:— Up to six months janet Leathem; six months to U months, Colleen Martin, r months to two years, Noeline Hitchens; special prize for twins, Lawrence and Jennifer Bnghtwell. , • „ . The women in charge of the various stalls were as follows. Sweets stall: Mesdames G. Muirhead and Ellery. Cake • stall: Members of W.C.T.U. Jumble stall: Mesdames M. La Roche and E Arnott. Novelty stall: Mesdames E. King and W G Thoms. Produce and flower stall: Major E. Ward and Miss I. B.' Gilroy. Sewing stall: Mesdames Z. Learmonth and S. G. Bishop. Afternoon tea Mrs. S. G. Bishop.
