— - — .. .. -o . ' ~ Monster Youth Rally Thirty-one thousand school children and 5000 teen-age young people representing 125 organisations will welcome the King and Queen and Princess Margaret at the Auckland Domain next year. This, it is believed, will be the largest youth gathering ever held in the Dominion and the only one of its kind arranged in ^connection with the Royal tour in New Zealand. Ticket Box For Domain That a portable ticket box with shafts would help was the suggestion of the Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, at Monday night's meeting of the Levin Borough Council when the question of the installation of such an aid to ticket collectors at the Levin Park Domain was being discussed.1 ' "Ybii'll riee&'two coolies as well," observed Cr. F. D. Chainey. "I think we could soon "get them," said Mr. Burdekin. It was decided to investigate the matter further. , \ Disposal Of Steam Roller The Palmerston North tenderer for the Levin Borough Council's steam roller has written increasing his tender of £6 to £20. Cr. D. J. Gardiner, at the council's meeting on Monday, observed that this was "still a long way off" its value. The borough overseer, Mr. E. Lycette, said that the roller portion was worth £25 and he had hoped to make a tar sprayer out! of the boiler. The Mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, suggested that the offer be declined and that Mr. Lycette submit his plans for the use or conversion of the steam roller parts. New Rotorua Hosnital People suffering from physical disorders, particularly spastic paralysis and the after-effects of poliomyelitis or rheumatic diseases, will be treated at a hospital to be established at Rotorua by the Government. The Services' Convalescent Hospital _ is in use temporarily and patients have been transf erred there from the now-closed Rotorua Sanatorium. Because of the urgent situation arisen from the polio epidemic it has been decided to concentrate on the treatment of these cases meantime. The name of the new hospital has not yet been decided, New Zealand Libraries New Zealanders tended to take their libraries for granted. They did not realise that in Melbourne, for example, there was no service comparable with that of Auckland or any other large New Zealand city, said Mr. F. J. Perry, principal of the Library Training School, Melbourne, on his arrival from Sydney yesterday. He has come to New Zealand to study library methods and to make a survey of the service. New Zealand libraries, he said, were widely recognisd as holding a. pre-eminent place compared with similar services overseas. Hope Abandoned? The impression that the Government had virtually abandoned all hope of increasing coal production in the Dominion had been left with Auckland Electric Power Board delegates to the recent power supply authorities' conference in Dunedin. This was reported by the chairman, Mr. C. J. Lovegrove, at a meeting of the board. The Minister in charge of the State Hydro-Electric Department, Mr. Semple, had mentioned that it was his policy to electrify the Dominion's railway system as soon as possible. Enunciation of this policy strengthened the impression that hope of increasing coal production had been" abandoned, he said.
