Forty-hour, Five-day Week For Hospital
AUCKLAND, Nov. 1. A 40-hour fiye-day week will be introduced this month by the Auckland Hospital Board for all sisters and stalf nurses at the boqrd's iustjtutions. ThLwas deeided at a meeting of the board tonight when the recommendations of the hospitals committee were adopted. It was also deeided that unti] th*; new hours were possibie for aJJ sections of the trained staff, theafre and'cfini*staffs should work whare necessary eight hours a day for five days and four hours on the sixth day aud be paid a maximurn .overtime allowance of 10 per eent. The new Hospital Employment Regulations ■ made it necessary to revise the trained staffs' hours of duty, reported the matron-in-ehief, Miss' W, Delugar, She had called a meeting of the matrons of the four major hospitals, together with two sisters from eaeii hospital, to discuss the proposals. The matrons could see no reasons why the new houra should not work satisfactorily.
