WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. yiore tlian 000 applications above Uie normal seating accominodatioii had been received alieady for the civic reception on the occasion of the Royfil visit, said the Mayor, Mr. Appieton, when proposals submitted by the citi zens' coiumittee were approved by the Oitv ( 'ouneil. The connnittee, com prising Ihe Mayor and thrce councillors, was set up to go into hnal details. It was his opinion that the fairest method of catering for the public at the civic reception would be for seats to be balloted for after provision had been made for those entitled to attend, said the Mayor. He felt that one wav of meeting the situation would be to^ consult with the Government and he suggested that those who would liavo the opportunity of seeing and hearing their Majesties at Government recep tions, might make way for others at the civic reception. He wanted to see the pnblie given every ehance to be present at the city's welcome.
