Schoolmaster's "Thank You" For Food Parcels
"We the citizens of Northfield, Birmingham, salute the citizens of Levin and send our grateful thanks." This sentence was contained in a. letter from. the headmaster of Tinker's Farm Secondary Modern Boys' School in that town, received by the Mayor, Mr. H, B, Burdekin, in acknowledgment of food parceis which were sent to Birmingham under the Mayor's Food for Britain Campaign. This is the first letter reeeived and it was read to councillors at last night's meeting. The headmaster stated that he had received some cases of food from the Chief Education Officer and he appre.ciated the kind thought which prompted Levin's action as well as the gifts, which were most welcome. The food would be put to good use by deserving cases, the headmaster stated. "If you, Mr, Mayor, eould write to us, or put us in touch with someone who will write to us, we should be able to promote- and strengthen our ties of friendship," concluded the letter. Commenting, Mr. Burdekin said that he had communicated with the headmaster of Horowhenua College, Mr. N. A. Byrne, who had stated that he would be very pleased to acknowledge the letter.
