Returned Servicemen Meet

Mr. B. Clayton, president, presided at the October general meeting of the Shannon branch of the Returned Services' Association held in Laurvig's Hall recently. The secretary, Mr. E. J. Gunning, reported that the roll stood at 250 members, which was made up of 191 Shannon members and 52 from the Tokomaru sub-branch. There is a total of 199 financial members, of which 132 are World War II personnel, MessrS. D. McDonald, E. J. Randolph and Lieut.-ColoneP Sharpe were transferre'd into the branch and Mr. G. Fitzgerald was stransferred out. With regard to the branch's food | for Britain campaign, it was j reported that a* total of 88 parcels had been posted up to October 11 at a cost of £66. The ^ecretary also presented the balance sheet for the "posers, penalties and profits" function held recently, a considerable sum being . poMed- to the food for Britain account. Mr. B. Clayton congratulated members iof the entertainment 'committee on the result of the function. Following a discussion regarding the fiumber of food parcels to be dispatched for Christmas, it was ultimately agreed that a double issue be made for this period. A letter was received from Mr. F. O. Burtt acknowledging congratulations on his award of the efficiency decoration. Mr. Burtt

was further congratulated ana members inspected the decoration. It was agreed that the War Memorial Hall Committee be given the use of the R.S.A. crockery, breakages to he paid. for. On the motion of Mr. H. D. Aitchison, it was agreed to hold the iannual reunion on November 20. Arrangements are to be placed in the hands of the entertainment committee. . It was reported that m the allocation of State house units recently made, returned servicemen Were granted two .of the four units. It was reported that last week a card and indoor bowling section was held in the Moutoa Halh when card and indoor bowling evening 'and R.S.A. members entered , mto friendly competition. A most enjoyable evening was.spent. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the chair.
