Pamir's Crew Pack Up Sea Bags
WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. Tomorrow will be the last day that a Xew Zealand erew will work aboard the barque Pamir. Ihe erew were notified today that they would be paying off in 24 hours. They spent the day sto#wing away for the last time tho barque 's great sails. On Wednesday they Avill receive their final pay, sling sea bags over their shoulders and leave the ship. This morning, as the crew woke to the start of another week's work, they read notiees piniied in prominent places in the ship : ' ' All crew are notified that the New Zealand articles of agreement will be terminated. on Tuesday night, Oetober 12. No renewal of articles is proposed. ' ' From tomorrow, if they wish to eontinne in square rigged sailing ships, the crew will have to conipete xvith many seeking voyages in the Erikson ships Passat anc'i V iking — and perhaps the Pamir herself . The crew today were employed sailmaking and tomorrow will eomplete the stowing of the ship 's gear in readiness for her new crew and ownefs. Part of her cargo of basic slag is still to be discharged but from Wednesday the Pamir will be a deserted ship. Only the master, Gaptain H. S. Collier, and the chief olficer, Mr. A. S. Keyworth, will remain aboard. A representative of a Finnish sailing ship company is aljeady in Wellington and the ship's papers and documents are being prepared for the handing over of the 48-year-oid vessel to her former owners,
