No. 10 powning Street issued the following communique on the afternoon session of the Prime Ministers' conference": "The Prime Ministers' meeting this afternoon considered the economic situation. The Chancellor ' pf the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, opened the discussioji with a comprehensive survey of the general economic problems and Commonwealth prospects, with particular reference to the sterljnig area, and gave details of the British Government's eco-. nomic 'plans over the next four years. "Representatives of the other Commonwealth countries declared their admiratibn " of the way in which the British people- faced their problems and achieved so large a measure of .economic recovery. Mr. Attlee expressed the indebtedness of the British people to the other Commonwealth countries for the assistance they have given. "General discussions followed, which will be continued at a later ■meeting. In the course of the discussions, reference was made to the needi for promoting economic development in the Commonwealth as a whole and particularly industrially in the less; developed part of it."
